Student Reviews
‘Poppy Pym’ by Dominik Y9
A very unique and funny story set in both a circus and a school. Poppy is a playful and kind character who after arguing with her mum about going to school, reluctantly goes. Its great because the book is about learning rules and making friends but is also exciting because a strange curse is released when some Egyptian artefacts are brought into class. I would give this book 5 stars.
‘When I See Blue’ by Matilda Y9
This was a very emotional story about a boy (Ben) who was bullied for being ‘weird’ and was struggling to cope with his OCD and everyday life. He moves school to get away from the bullying but is worried about standing out. Things do begin to get better for him when he makes a friend called April. I would give this book 4 stars because it puts life in perspective about the struggles some people have.
‘A Whisper of Horses’ by Beth Y10
This book is both thrilling and full of suspense. It is set in the future when all animals (except humans) have been killed by gases. The main idea is for the main character Serendipity to prove that horses really do exist and can be found in the beautiful lands of Wales. But to do this she must escape the walled city of Lahn Dan (London). In her adventure to find the mysterious animals, Serendipity comes across many curious characters and places. Her quest makes you feel very curious and filled with suspense as you don’t know if she will be caught! I would give this book 5 stars out of 5.
