Year 8 Options
The Options Process where Y8 students select what they would like to study in Key Stage 4 starts in the Spring Term. The L4L team deliver a series of lessons to inform students about what they can select to study and how to start to think about the selection process. Students are provided with a Year 8 Options Subject Booklet each which provides details about every course offered. Students and parents / carers then have the Y8 Parents Evening on Thursday February 2nd and the Y8 Options Evening on Thursday 9th March to ask questions and gather more information to help support the students decision making process. In addition students have time at the College Careers Fair (also Thursday 9th March) in National Careers week and they have promotion and information experiences within choice subjects during the Spring Term to help support their decision making.
There are two pathways:
- ASPIRE pathway follows the EBacc route (English, Maths, Sciences, Humanities and a Language) – students are selected for this route, they then select two other courses of their choice
- ASPIRE CHOICE pathway – students can follow the EBacc route if they wish, all students have to select a Humanities (Geography or History) or French course, they then select three other courses of their choice
Students are then given a one-to-one interview on Friday 19th May to discuss their future aspirations and ambitions, and where their allocated GCSE choices are shared with them.
